I would also want to have the ability to generate these reports with a cron job and forward them around through email to those who are interested on a per project basis.

no but ive had mixed results in the past and if i had that feature it would have been a nice burden off of my shoulders if my server was emailing me and everyone else their task list in the morning and noting anythign that they are coming up on or over due for.

!!!!!!! your email thing just hit me in the head! I dunno if you already meant this or not, but just thought about the ability for team members to set notifications on other member's assignments.... so like, if you have a task that's dependent of another being finished, you'll be messaged as soon as that task has something happen to it, and by that I mean, you can have updates emailed to you for when something is status modified, or completed or anything, so maybe you only need a certain part of it finished, you can get emails for anytime that task is modified and as soon as it's ready, BOOM you're already doing what you need to do that was waiting on that other thing...

well, i've done some work with messaging protocol gateways, similar to jabber and the likes...... most everyone runs some sort of an IM client these days, possible to develop a jabber gateway to the manager, allowing you to receive alerts and the likes via IM instead of, or in combination of email while you're online.

i really like the idea of being able to dynamically change the features you want to incorporate into your project. that is what will make this project into something great. a lot of times i considered basecamp, but it was way too involved for projects of my size.

one thing i just mentioned to bob was something i consider to be very necessary in making this project, and that is RSS feeds. i want to see complete integration of this stuff into websites. it would also be nice to make a complete website system... like i complained to bob because he has logins separate for each section on gneu. if we're making a messaging system( being able to post things and allowing users to comment ) then i feel that is pretty much synonymous with a forum. in other words, we may as well go the extra mile and develop a full suite of tools that people can use.

for instance, i would like to be able to log in to a website, see what tasks have been assigned to me/what tasks are due in addition to what i was previously viewing. i would also like to not have to log in a second time to use the forums and project manager.

no matter what features we choose to implement, we should build some sort of core system that allows for a modular design. that way, we can neatly divide work up amongst ourselves.

Id also like the ability to drop in todo tasks that have no necessity to be done, just things to keep in mind.

more email notifications:

4, 2 and then 1 week from milestone or project level due date.

I'm not sure what you guys have for experience in terms of the shipping process.......... basically the end of a dev cycle that is crunch time right before a project is completed, especially in game dev, no new features are introduced, just things finished and bugs fixed.......... it'd be nice to have a plugin or something that allowed you to switch "modes" for your project...... meaning once you switch into the "ship" mode or whatever it's called, you have a slightly different control setup for the system, where all new tasks created need to be authorized by the shipping leader, (a lot of times, this is the same manager from before) but if isn't authorized by the shipping leader, it doesn't happen. I had something else too, about this mode....

maybe you can flag tasks in special ways, or sort by oldest created and things like that, basically helping the team decide what just is NOT going to make release and what they SHOULD be focusing on to make sure nothing too buggy is released.

EDIT: of course this only applies to projects with an overall completion date requirement. however there are a lot of commercial projects that have a requirement like this.

Below i have attached the current status of the ddoc. I have been adding ~ 4 - 6 slides a night for the last week, so please feel free to send changes or suggestions/discussion my way. None of the application is set in stone, but i plan to start work on it in the coming weeks.
